SERVICE NOTES

•Fully serviced and recapped.
-Electrolytic caps have a shelf life. Although they can last over 20 years, this amp is 40 years old and is long overdue.

•Modified for series II internal speaker bypass only with individual switches so you can choose external or internal for either of the two amps.

•Professionally calibrated all the trim pots for the gain section and the compression in the clean channel.
-This is kind of a tedious process that requires the service manual and preferably a scope.
-The gain channel now has the optimal balance of gain and noise and is absolutely killer for death metal straight in or even brutz metalcore if boosted with an OD.
-The compression in the clean channel is balanced for optimal clean playing and to match the volume of the gain channel.

•Replaced the two completely shredded with Carvin PS6.5 speakers that can each handle 50w.
-After a ton of searching and research, I discovered these are the ONLY instrument (not car stereo) speakers capable of handling the power of this amp.

FEATURES

•Two powerful Stereo 50w power sections. Each side can drive a 412 at stage volume with a full band.

•Amazing clean channel with compression. It can perfectly do that JC120 clean (possibly better in my opinion)

•preset gain levels using buttons?? (The 80s were weird haha)

•Stereo Chorus / “echo” (which is more of a short slapback reverb) both using Mitsubishi MN series “bucket brigade” chips (Two MN3007 and one MN3011)

•This is the series I from the early / mid 80s (series II came out in 1989)
-The main difference is the series II had a switch to disconnect the internal speakers.

The trade off with how I’ve installed the mod is, because there are two power amps, you can use one side for one internal and one side for an external speaker by turning off the internal speaker switch for the side you plug an external cab into.

PERSONAL NOTES

Even with all the work I did to get the right speakers, I’m not crazy about this tiny little all metal cab. Plugging into a stereo cab or even two 412 (yeah, it can push them!) sounds absolutely incredible.

It’s crazy how loud this amp is! Not as loud as my VH140C but about the same as my crate G130C-XL (which is still loud enough for a full band)

The EQ is pretty mindblowing. Two midrange bands for high mid and low mid. Instant GODFLESH and BIG BLACK tones.

The videos were made using the XLR line out into a UA VOLT interface. One has with a two notes opus cab sim and one without so it might be a bit harsh but it gets the idea across.

I am really REALLY sad to let this one go. It’s from my personal collection and perfect for home, studio, recording and live use.
