"What does "blackened" / "blacked out" / "Krackle" mean?"
These terms are for the different paint / finish options for pedals.
Black is the most affordable option because it’s a one step process where the enclosures that come pre-powder coated black are Dremel / etched
The other options I make by hand:
- "Blackened" is a chemical process of “anodizing” the raw aluminum and then sealing it with clear coat.
- "Metal Krackle" is the black Krackle paint over raw aluminum.
- Colored krackle, I powder coat the aluminum myself and then Krackle paint it and then sealed.
- ”none more black” (or “blacked out”) I dremel etch into a black enclosure and then powder coat it black. (Originally I would blacken the carved area and then clear coat over it but powder coating is the most durable and can maintain a matte textured finish)
The additional amount of work and customization increases the price and that premium also means you’re getting a one of a kind work of art.
