After years of requests, countless hours of research and development and just getting out of my own way and doing it, the first BLACKHAWK reverb is here:
LOTHLÓRIEN (known to the Ents as "Dreamflower"…)

There were a couple impediments in the process:
• I prefer a spacious ambient reverb or something more dynamic and textured to the classic "spring".
• Ambient reverb can only be implemented digitally and I'm a "maker" not a coder.
• There are limited options for “chips” in a hardware design without going full DSP.

With these in mind, I went with the classic FV-1 but using external circuits and hardware to shape the internal sound instead of software coded EEPROM chips.

I wanted it to be intended for live use and with distortion/fuzz pedals and/or in the loop of a high gain amp, but most importantly it not bury my tone in the mix.
In order to do this I decided on a parallel dry and "wet” design with an “effect volume” control instead of a “mix knob”.

SETTINGS:
• MODULATED HALL
(Toggle up)
This is the tighter of the two reverbs and the modulation can be used even with the decay at minimum. I believe Neige of ALCEST would refer to this setting as “aquatic”
• CAVE/CAVERN
(toggle down)
Rather than just call it “cathedral” or “chamber” I felt it reminded me more of what it would sound like to be deep in a cave being slowly digested by a hallucinogenic fungus…

CONTROL TRANSLATOR:

D = Decay (length/time)

🔽 = Modulation rate (HALL setting) High pass filter (CAVERN/CAVE setting)

🔼 = Modulation depth (HALL setting) Low pass filter (CAVERN/CAVE setting)

V = Effect Volume (“wet” amount)

X = “Clock” (global pitch / rate / diffusion)

F = Feedback

All BLACKHAWK pedals and preamps are true bypass and standard “one spot style” 9v, Negative tip, 2.1mm barrel.

DIGITAL CONTROLS:
Decay works the same way for both settings.
🔽 (down triangle) is both
• Modulation rate for the HALL setting • High-pass filter for the CAVERN/CAVE setting.
🔼 (up triangle) is both:
•Modulation depth for the HALL setting
• Low-pass filter CAVERN/CAVE setting

ANALOG CONTROLS:
• Variable "clock" (like a BBD delay control or flanger manual control) This warps the global pitch / rate and "diffusion" control.
• Analog feedback regeneration sends the reverb back into itself creating haunting depth and dimension.
*Keep in mind, the feedback will keep going if if the knob is cranked clockwise in bypass when the “tails” setting is on although that can be really cool for feed back and to abruptly stop with tails setting off

CLOCKING:
• “Underclocking” shortens the tails and tightens the diffusion (this sounds great with the MODULATED HALL setting)
• “Overclocking” expands the tails giving them a granular quality (incredible with the CAVE setting)))

BYPASS:
The LOTHLÓRIEN utilizes a buffered FET bypass with “soft touch” momentary switching for the option of both trails / no trails.

When voltage is applied to a JFET, the resistance goes from several million ohms to just a few ohms.
Because this process is gradual, rather than abruptly disconnecting and reconnecting like a true bypass switch, it minimizes any popping to an almost inaudible amount.

“In winter here no heart could mourn for summer or for spring. No blemish or sickness or deformity could be seen in anything that grew upon the earth. On the land of Lórien, there was no stain.

“PRE-ORDER” simply means it is made to order. You purchase and then I build as quickly as possible.
Preorders take about two weeks but rarely can take up to four.
Every pedal is made by hand for YOU.
