FRIDAY JULY 11TH!!
LIMITED DROP OF HAND CARVED PURPLE KRACKLE MORGOTH MODULATION

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

The MORGOTH MODULATION is tap tempo and capable of chorus, vibrato, flange(ish), echo and pitch shifting sounds. Designed to add anything from subtle textures to ambience to a mind bending space-time warp.

As a fan of many genres of music outside of just metal like shoegaze, goth/death rock and psychedelic (and combining them together in ways like Neurosis, Alcest, Anathema and SWANS) it only stands that more than just an epic dirt tone is necessary at times.

The MORGOTH is the result of many months of research and design work (with the first experimentations of it dating back to 2021) and many revisions (the first official release was V1 - R12)

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

MODULATION/delay control symbols are different from BLACKHAWK dirt pedals and are:

D=depth
R=rate
C=clean
W=waveform
T=time
F=feedback

Toggle is to switch between short (chorus/flange/slapback) and long delay time for more echo effect and much weirder modulation.

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

•With a minimum delay of 30ms and a maximum of 340ms (which can be extended up to 1 second with the toggle, causing has a dirty lo-fi effect at slower times) chorus, flange(ish) and lo-fi echo sounds are all possible with the right modulation and different settings.
Experiment and find them all!

•The clean signal path is fully analog.

•The LFO oscillator chip used to control the MORGOTH is absolutely brilliant and was designed and provided by ELECTRIC DRUID.

•There are eight waveforms: saw up, saw down, square, triangle, sine, random ramps and random levels all accessible from the "W" wave control.

•I emphasize the word "modulation" because in the case of a delay or reverb (when those are eventually designed and released), it will only set the time of the MODULATION, not the delay itself.

TECHNICAL STUFF (EXPLAINED AS SIMPLY/CLEARLY AS I CAN)

With bucket brigade chips being near unobtainable in bulk I decided to mess with the technically "digital" PT23999 chip.

In my research I discovered the similarities between the PT2399 and bucket brigade chips are more numerous than the differences (Especially with the right filtering techniques)

BBDs work by "sampling" an analog audio input signal and passing it through a series of capacitors, at tens to hundreds of thousands of hertz "clock frequency" to create a delay.
The time it takes for the signal to travel through the chain of capacitors determined by the voltage controlled oscillator clock frequency, which determines the length of the delay.

The PT2399 essentially works the same way.
Instead of voltages and capacitors, the chip converts tiny "bit" samples of an analog audio input signal. It then passes the analog signal through a "bit stream" into RAM storage (much like passing the voltages > capacitors that a BBD does) which is then "de-modulated", filtered and sent out again.

The time it takes for the samples to travel through the bit stream into the RAM and back out again (or "sample rate" to put it another way) is determined by the voltage controlled oscillator clock frequency, which determines the length of the delay.

There are still some analog aspects of the PT2399. The built in amplifiers in the chip are analog. The time setting is analog and voltage controlled, it's just converted to digital information by the internal module.

The difference you normally hear between a bucket brigade chip and a PT2399 has almost everything to do with the filtering and surrounding circuitry, not the actual chips.
Because the right filtering techniques are applied, tone of the MORGOTH is surprisingly analog sounding with its own unique character.

The new MKII version includes the new "clickless true bypass" (or "soft touch") switch which uses a clickless momentary switch to trigger a relay as opposed to the standard mechanical method.

The MKII also uses a hybrid of SMD resistors/diodes/semiconductors/ICs but with the important parts (audio film caps, rarer discrete transistors and some ICs) still being through hole.

The audio/DC jacks and foot switches will still be handwired, only now they can be done much faster.
This means shorter wait times and the ability to build batches!

All BLACKHAWK pedals and preamps are true bypass and standard “one spot style” 9v, Negative tip, 2.1mm barrel.

Please allow 1-2 weeks build time as every BLACKHAWK pedal is made by hand for YOU.
